Rainwater Harvesting

Rainwater harvesting is the capture, diversion, and storage of rainwater for use in landscaping, rangeland, and other purposes. This sustainable practice reduces reliance on municipal water supplies, helps conserve natural resources, and can significantly lower water bills. It is a smart and simple way to save water.

Planning Your System

Here are a few guides designed to help homeowners create their own system.

Sales Tax Exemption

The Texas Tax Code Section 151.355 exempts rainwater harvesting equipment and supplies from state sales tax. To claim this exemption, a purchaser of rainwater harvesting equipment must furnish a Tax Exemption Application Form 01-339 to the supplier of the equipment.

Rainwater Harvesting Rebate Program

The Lost Pines Groundwater Conservation District (LPGCD) seeks to promote sustainable water use through a Rainwater Harvesting Program. This initiative is designed to encourage both residential and large property owners to incorporate rainwater collection systems, helping conserve groundwater resources while fostering community-wide water stewardship.

The next Rainwater Harvesting 101 Information Session is scheduled for Saturday, February 28, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 12 PM at Aqua WSC's Annex Building, 415 Old Austin Hwy, Bastrop, TX 78602. Space is limited, RSVP by calling (512) 360-5088.
